DEPARTMENT/SCHOOL: IT Services JOB TITLE: Infrastructure Engineer SALARY & HOURS: £44,544 per annum, Monday to Friday, 9:00 - 17:00 hrs. We are currently in the middle of an exciting period of digital transformation. A new TechnologyOne ERP system is due to launch in March 2027, and a full network refresh using Extreme Networks technology is now underway. These initiatives provide strong foundations for the University's future use of technology, but they also increase the importance of a skilled, collaborative and forward thinking IT Services team. To help support this work, we are pleased to offer the opportunity for an Infrastructure Engineer to join our IT Services team based at our historic campus in Buckingham. This role sits within a small but highly visible IT team supporting the University's core systems and infrastructure. Our Infrastructure Engineers work across disciplines including network, endpoint, server and cloud technologies, allowing us to avoid silos and collaborate to solve problems and improve services across the University. An overview of how responsibilities are shared across the infrastructure team, including the areas this role will help lead, can be found in the attached responsibilities matrix. For this appointment we are particularly interested in candidates with strong experience working with Microsoft 365 and the wider Microsoft cloud ecosystem. This includes platforms such as SharePoint and collaboration services, as well as the tools that allow organisations to automate processes and make better use of their information. Experience with technologies such as Power Automate, Power Platform, and emerging Microsoft data services would be especially valuable. At present, the University has significant opportunity to make better use of these tools. This role offers the chance to help shape how Microsoft 365 is governed, adopted and developed across the University, working closely with colleagues across IT Services and the wider institution. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence how these platforms evolve and to help build practical, sustainable ways for staff to use them effectively. We are looking for someone with strong technical skills who also enjoys working collaboratively with colleagues across the University. The role involves balancing hands on engineering with communication, relationship building and identifying opportunities where technology can improve the way people work. Whether you are an experienced infrastructure engineer looking for a role with genuine scope and visibility, or an aspiring engineer ready to step into a broader and more influential position, this role offers the opportunity to help shape an important area of the University's technology landscape. We welcome conversations with a broad range of applicants. We recognise that no candidate will meet every requirement and we actively invest in developing our people. If you have a solid infrastructure background and are interested in helping build something meaningful while improving how technology supports teaching, learning and operations at Buckingham, we encourage you to apply. What can we offer you? In addition to an Aviva Pension scheme, we offer: Beautiful working environments across our campuses Employee Assistance Programme Christmas closure On-site catering facilities University bookshop with staff discount Free on-site parking Discount of courses for staff and their families The closing date for applications is Friday 10th April 2026, and it is anticipated that interviews will be held 30th April and 1st May.
