Power Electronics Engineer

Locations: Derby / Bristol / Hybrid
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Power Electronics Engineer to join Rolls-Royce.
In this role, the successful candidate will work within a wider power electronics team to deliver innovative power electronic solutions supporting Rolls-Royce's electrification and low carbon strategies. The role involves delivering complex power electronic conversion systems that manage electrical power for various applications, ranging from 10s of kW to 1MW. The candidate will take full ownership of solutions from concept through design to testing and commissioning.

Responsibilities:
* Serve as the technical point of contact for power electronic systems involving AC/DC, DC/AC, DC/DC conversion, and solid-state power controllers.
* Develop optimal power electronic solutions aligned with electrical system requirements, considering power quality, EMC, and protection aspects.
* Own solutions from concept to installation, including electrical, thermal, and mechanical design aspects.
* Present solutions at design review gates and liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
* Innovate and improve existing methods, capture intellectual property, and support research activities at university technology centers.
* Mentor junior engineers and collaborate across teams to ensure optimal system solutions and knowledge sharing.
* Stay updated on latest power electronics technologies, including semiconductor devices and control methods.
* Engage with the global power electronics community to share knowledge and develop standards.
Requirements:
• Minimum 5 years of experience in power electronic systems development and verification.
• Knowledge of domain plant and platform interfaces, component behavior, and electrical design within multi-converter systems.
• Experience with modeling and simulation tools for power electronic systems.
• PCB design experience using Altium and/or Cadence is advantageous.
• Degree in engineering or equivalent qualification.
• Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize in high-pressure environments.
• Ability to research and seek solutions externally, including from suppliers and universities.
• Capability to train and develop team members and deliver training materials.
