Overview
Bath and North Somerset PDU are looking to recruit an Accommodation Support Officer, which sits under the Probation Service Officer job description.
Responsibilities, Activities & Duties
* Support Probation Practitioners to complete referrals to identify suitable accommodation for People on Probation. This could include Duty to Refer submissions to local authorities, referrals to local housing providers, and Public Protection Accommodation Protocol (PPAP) referrals.
* Engage with the regional Homeless Prevention Team, identify cases for review at weekly meetings and provide updates on behalf of Practitioners.
* Liaise with local authorities, housing advisors and accommodation providers.
* Provide accommodation support and advice to Practitioners.
* Attend multi-agency meetings where appropriate.
* Engage with outreach services where appropriate.
* The role can be based in either Bath or North Somerset Probation Office, but covers both sites and travel between the two is expected as part of the role.
Role Context and Typical Activities
New entrants are expected to join on the minimum of the pay band. Probation Service Officers help make a difference to peoples lives; the role offers on-the-job training and a real chance to build a career in the Probation Service. As a PSO, you’ll have a similar job to a fully qualified probation officer, with focus on medium and lower risk clients. Day-to-day, you’ll manage a caseload of offenders before and after sentence, assess and manage risks, provide information to courts and work with agencies throughout the justice system. You’ll also support offenders with practical housing and employment advice, among other duties.
The job holder will undertake the full range of work with people on probation before and after sentence, including assessment, sentence implementation, offender management and producing reports. The job holder will provide case management support to a full range of people on probation using service procedures and practice directions that underpin professional judgement.
To assess and manage risk (including risk management plans and escalation) posed by people on probation to protect victims of crime and the general public by:
* Liaising, providing information and advice to criminal courts, criminal justice agencies and other partner agencies.
* Supervising and managing risk of those on probation subject to community sentences, during and after custodial sentences.
* Working with other agencies and groups to prevent crime and meet the needs of victims and people on probation.
In line with PS policies and procedures, demonstrate commitment to equality and inclusion and adhere to policies regarding sensitive/confidential information. Some out-of-hours work may be required (e.g., Courts, Approved Premises, programmes, evening reporting).
People, Roles & Capabilities
The post holder will undertake the full range of work with people on probation before and after sentence, including:
* Assessments and case management tasks; contribute to risk management plans and report significant changes relating to risk of harm or reoffending.
* Use computer-based systems to produce, update and maintain records within agreed timescales.
* Ensure effective referrals to services and facilities and communicate with offender management staff, interventions staff, service providers and external agencies to review progress and risks.
* Undertake prison, home or other location visits as required; work in court settings and complete appropriate reports on cases and breaches.
* Provide cover within teams as required and deliver and co-lead accredited programmes commensurate with grade.
* Carry out safeguarding duties in accordance with statutory responsibilities and agency policies.
