PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

You will create, control and shape news content for online and audio for our audiences in East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire. The successful applicant will be key to delivering creative excellence to an audience of more than half a million users each week. Your experience in news will help motivate and develop a team of reporters and newsreaders to produce exceptional output across multiple platforms.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

This friendly team tells compelling and creative stories about the people and places in an area which encompasses landmark cities, coastal towns and rural villages. A willingness to get under the skin of issues will be rewarded with regional and national impact and opportunities to further develop your career in a role which includes people management, cross-platform working and excellent news judgement.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

* Creative and consistent management of content across primarily online and audio, as well as working closely with colleagues in TV and social media to help stories find their widest audience.
* Manage and support reporters and newsreaders to create compelling stories on the BBC website and Radio Humberside – as well as overseeing the creation of material which can be used by regional and national TV output.
* Attend and chair meetings to solicit, develop and deliver content both locally and regionally.
* Plan and run an effective diary which delivers a regular flow of exclusive stories.
* Help colleagues in the wider audio newsroom and act as part of a site‑wide management team to develop all staff.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

* Substantial news experience with developed editorial judgement.
* Ability to deliver news for online and audio audiences.
* A methodical and detailed approach to managing a news diary while being able to deliver short‑term needs.
* A solid knowledge of East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire’s wider news landscape.
* Ability to think quickly and change priorities calmly and clearly.

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED

* Ability to use BBC story creation tools – i.e. Optimo, Dira, Open Media, Jupiter etc.
* A commitment to develop yourself and those around you.
* Some people management experience highlighting an ability to deliver wider strategic aims through clear communication.

If you can bring some of these skills and experience, along with transferable strengths, we’d love to hear from you and encourage you to apply.
