Description
Coordinate designated study programme delivery activities for the College, including delivery of high-quality teaching, managing day-to-day operational issues, exams, and timetabling. Ensure a consistent approach across sites if required. Inspire and motivate students through outstanding teaching and learning that challenges them to excel.
Lecturers should be passionate about their teaching area and enthusiastic about developing students' English, Maths, and employability skills. Regular target setting and progress monitoring will underpin this, ensuring all students reach successful outcomes. Preferably, candidates hold qualifications and/or experience teaching Business and Travel & Tourism, with a strong background in Further Education.
Main Responsibilities and Duties
The following outline indicates the primary priorities of this role, as directed by senior management, and is not an exhaustive list:
1. Deliver high-quality teaching according to College standards, including preparing materials, schemes of work, and lesson plans. Develop and implement curricula, undertake quality assurance, assess student work, monitor progress, and maintain statutory compliance (safeguarding, equal opportunities, health and safety).
2. Manage course operations daily, including communication, problem-solving, timetable adjustments, providing cover, coordinating work experience, internal verification, and liaising with departments to ensure consistency across sites.
3. Assist with recruitment and enrolment by managing enrolment procedures, including Qualifications on Entry, transfers, and late enrolments. Organize and implement induction programs.
4. Support student development through meetings, setting SMART targets, assisting with UCAS references, and addressing pastoral needs. Liaise with college services as needed.
5. Monitor student attendance and results including registers, exam entries, and achievement tracking. Develop action plans as needed.
6. Promote English and Maths provision, including monitoring attendance and student movement between lessons.
7. Participate in meetings and events such as staff meetings, parent evenings, and marketing events. Coordinate parent meetings and consultations.
8. Develop courses and materials with colleagues, participate in CPD, and mentor new lecturers.
9. Administer departmental tasks including attendance records, reports, and updating the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
10. Engage in quality assurance activities such as verification, moderation, and self-assessment reviews. SPS lecturers will undertake internal verification and monitor action plans.
11. Support curriculum and quality issues, resource coordination, and liaise with Higher Education Institutions as required.
