This is an exciting opportunity to work within RMBC as part of an effective and efficient Revenues Service, inspecting domestic and commercial properties and new developments for Council Tax and Business Rates purposes. You will undertake property inspections and deal with customer enquiries and appointments throughout the Local Authority area. Use of a car for work purposes is desirable, as regular travel around the borough is required to carry out visits and inspections for which an appropriate allowance is payable.
You must have an up-to-date knowledge of Council Tax/Business Rates and/or Benefits regulations and be proficient in a range of computer applications and ICT, preferably with experience of using a financially based computer system and document imaging system. You will interpret, validate, and process information accurately and to timescales when dealing with a range of administrative tasks and data input.
You must have experience of working in a Revenues/Benefits office or similar organisation and experience of dealing with customers to advise and assess eligibility for customers claiming exemptions discounts and reliefs including gathering relevant supporting evidence to ensure that all accounts and claims processed comply with legislation, regulations, and procedures
You will have the ability to remain calm and professional whilst working under pressure and be able to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently are essential to this role.

Until 31st March 2026 employees paid at Band D and above are subject to a temporary pay reduction of 1.15% spread out by means of a monthly deduction from each pay period over the full financial year.
