This is a full-time substantive Consultant Thoracic Surgeon post at Nottingham City Hospital site of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. This is a replacement post. The successful applicant will join a team of another 5 consultant thoracic surgeons and will contribute to a comprehensive consultant-led thoracic surgery service. He/she will have broad experience in all aspects of thoracic surgery. Person specification Qualifications • Full GMC registration and a current Licence to practise • Currently on or eligible to be included on the Specialist Register with CCT in Cardiothoracic Surgery expected within 6 months of interview date • FRCS Cardiothoracic Surgery or equivalent Experience • Experience in elective and emergency cardiothoracics at a senior level • Comprehensive experience in both elective and emergency thoracic surgery. • More than 150 VATS lobectomy cases in logbook as first operator. • Experience and independent operating in LVRS surgery/ endobronchial valves • Experience and independent operating in emergency airway management including argon diathermy/laser and stenting. • Experience and independent operating in chest wall resections and reconstructions for sarcoma patients. • Independent experience or fellowship in robotic thoracic surgery. • At least 12 months of dedicated adult cardiac surgery training • Experience in managing acute chest trauma. Communication and Relationship skills • Able to communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, their families and other health professionals • Able to develop, present and operationalise coherent ideas for service development/delivery. • Able to delegate appropriately. Analytical and Judgement skills • Familiarity with the UK Cardiothoracic Surgery training curriculum. • Understanding of principles of clinical audit. • Evidence of participation in clinical audit. • Able to teach and support junior staff effectively. • Evidence of publications, international presentations and involvement in research projects. Planning and organisation skills • Able to work flexibly in a changing health service
