We are delighted that Alternative Learning Trust, have two newly established provisions in the Isle of Sheppey. We are operating two schools within one site community and are so excited about the wealth of experience and expertise in the building to serve our community effectively.
Estuary Academy Island is our Alternative provision which initially opened in September 2024 to provide education for up to 115 students. It offers a broad and balanced learning journey for students in Years 7 – 11 with a broad range of vocational qualifications available as well as traditional GCSEs in core subjects. Our aim is to provide pathways which lead to exciting onward opportunities in education or workplaces.
Nore Academy then opened its doors early in 2025 catering for young people aged 11-16 with a primary need of SEMH and other related areas of SEN such as ASC and communication difficulties. The first phase of opening, which is ongoing, will see approximately 48 pupils join across KS3 and 4 and then up to 72 by September 2025, many of whom may have been out of school for some time and desperately need support from ambitious, driven teaching and support staff who care deeply about pupils’ emotional as well as academic development.
We are looking to recruit a Nurture Lead who can work with support of the Senior Leadership Team set up a new internal Nurture Provision. The successful candidate will lead a small team of specialist TAs within a dedicated Nurture Room and provide targeted nurture interventions for individual pupils or small groups identified as having specific additional wellbeing needs. We are also open to exploring the concept of ‘thrive’ and are welcoming application from people with experience leading this approach.
This role will suit experienced SEN practitioners such as an HLTA or equivalent or a teacher looking for new challenge.
We are looking for someone with high levels of empathy, a calm and patient manner, with past experience of working with young people who have experienced trauma, as well as past experience of leading a team.
Who we are looking for:
1. An experienced SEN practitioner.
2. Candidates with experience of working with pupils with SEMH needs who may have also experienced trauma.
3. Someone with resilience, empathy and kindness.
4. Ideally someone with training or qualifications in nurture approaches and practices such as Thrive, ELSA or Nurture UK.
5. Candidates who are child-centred, organised, resourceful and proactive.
6. Candidates with a desire to continually improve outcomes for pupils’ practice.
This is a term time only - permanent position with a National NJC pay Grade 6. Scale Points 16-20 £29,572 - £31,586 (pro rata £25,437- £27,169)
