As a Manufacturing Technician (Injection Moulding) Apprentice, you will gain valuable hands-on experience in the manufacturing industry, specifically within moulding processes. This entry-level role offers comprehensive training to develop your technical knowledge, practical skills, and understanding of moulding techniques to support production operations. This apprenticeship is designed to provide you with the foundation for a successful career in manufacturing. Assist in the setup, operation, and maintenance of moulding machines. Learn to prepare moulding tools and equipment for production runs. Support with monitoring the moulding process to ensure product quality. Understand and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for moulding processes. Assist in identifying and resolving issues such as mould defects or production stoppages. Learn to conduct routine checks on machinery and tools for safety and efficiency. Support the maintenance and cleaning of moulding equipment. Follow company health and safety guidelines at all times. Assist with quality control processes, inspecting products for defects and ensuring they meet required specifications. Participate in problem-solving activities to improve production efficiency and product quality. Complete assigned coursework and practical assessments as part of your apprenticeship. This role provides hands-on experience, training, and career development opportunities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. What is Injection Moulding? Injection moulding works in a similar way to filling an ice cube tray. Instead of water, melted plastic is injected into a precisely shaped mould. The material fills every part of the mould, then cools and hardens into the final shape before being released. In the plumbing industry, this process is used to make high volumes of durable, consistent parts such as pipe fittings, connectors, valves, and clips that are used in homes and commercial systems. A day in the life of an apprentice at RWC: As an apprentice your shift will start with a safety briefing ensuring you are equipped with the knowledge to work safely and efficiently. You’ll spend time alongside experienced colleagues learning the ins and outs of equipment repair and maintenance. Throughout your shift you will engage in hands-on tasks from troubleshooting machinery to collaborating with your team on various projects. Your problem-solving skills will be put to the test as you address real-world challenges and your ability to manage your time effectively will help you meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards. Expect to participate in training sessions that will expand your knowledge and skills as continuous learning is a vital part of this role. As you progress, you’ll take on more responsibility contributing to team meetings and sharing your insights. At the end of your shift, you will reflect on what you’ve learned and how you can apply it moving forward all while enjoying the support of a collaborative team environment. Every day will bring new challenges and opportunities for growth! What could the future look like? There’s no limit to what you can achieve while working with RWC. Their team is at the heart of what they do, and they are looking for someone who wants to play a key part in that long term. As a successful applicant, you have the potential to secure a full-time position with the business at the end of your apprenticeship. Through practical on-the-job training, you’ll develop the skills and knowledge needed to become a competent Extrusion Technician, gaining experience in machine operation, production processes, and quality control. This apprenticeship provides a solid foundation for a career in manufacturing, ensuring efficient production, high-quality output, and strict adherence to safety standards. This apprenticeship also offers opportunities for professional growth, allowing you to take on more specialised technical roles or progress into leadership positions within the company. Skills, Knowledge, and Experience About You To thrive in this apprenticeship role at RWC, you will need a willingness to learn how equipment works and an interest in health and safety within a manufacturing environment. You should be happy taking on a variety of tasks to help keep the factory running smoothly, alongside having basic computer skills to record information. You’ll need to be self-motivated, able to work both independently and as part of a team, and committed to producing work to the right standards. Flexibility is important, as the role involves rotational hours and adapting to different tasks when needed, along with good timekeeping and organisation. A positive, professional attitude is key, with the ability to work well with others, take pride in your work, and show honesty and a strong work ethic. Experience Whilst previous experience is great, we’re not just interested in experience and qualifications; we’re looking for someone with the right attitude and aptitude to fit right in at RWC. Qualifications It’s about enthusiasm, not school results. In our experience the most successful apprentices are those who are driven to find out more about the sector, can be up front about what they do and don’t already know, are considerate, self-reflective, and impatient to learn the job role! So how does the apprenticeship work? Over 22 months, you’ll devote a minimum of 6 hours of your working week on ‘off the job’ training. This can include theory training (for example, virtual lessons & online learning), alongside practical training (for example shadowing, mentoring, & time spent writing assignments. Together this will count towards a Level 3 Polymer Processing Technician apprenticeship. You’ll be trained by an expert tutor from Tiro as well as an experienced mentor at RWC who together, will make sure you develop the knowledge, skills, and work habits you’ll need to succeed in your career. Being an apprentice is hands-on, so you’ll get the chance to learn things you might otherwise not have experienced in a university or college environment. The best part? You’ll be earning a salary while you gain your qualifications, meaning no huge student loans to pay back at the end of the programme! Eligibility While we never want to hinder your job application process with obstacles, there are some minimum requirements you’ll need to meet in order to do an apprenticeship, these are rules set by the UK Government. As a training provider, we are committed to ensuring that our apprenticeship programs deliver significant new knowledge and skills. To be eligible, applicants must demonstrate that the program will provide learning and experiences beyond their current qualifications and professional expertise. If you already hold a Level 3, degree or equivalent higher-level qualification in a closely related field, or possess substantial relevant experience, you may not be eligible for apprenticeship funding, as these programmes are designed for individuals who require upskilling or reskilling in their chosen career pathway. You’ll need to be over 18, not in full time education, have lived in the UK for 3 years and have the right to work in the UK. If you don’t quite meet these minimum requirements yet, let us know you’re interested here and we’ll get in touch to discuss this further with you.
