Mechanical Design Engineer

Salary: circa £35,000 (range £30,000–£40,000)
Location: Hook, Hampshire
Working Pattern: 4 days office-based, 1 day from home
Experience: 13 years (placement or industry)
Education: Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline)
The Opportunity
We're looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer ready to take the next step in their career. This role involves hands-on product design, prototyping, testing, and technical documentation, supporting a diverse range of products including electrical components, cables, and CCTV systems. It offers the chance to gain end-to-end engineering experience, from CAD design to collaboration with international manufacturing teams, making a real impact on customer products.
What You'll Do
* Design and prototype mechanical components (including medical devices) using SolidWorks.
* Collaborate with UK & Asia manufacturing teams to ensure smooth, production-ready designs.
* Support compliance with ISO standards (ISO 9001 & ISO 13485).
* Create technical documentation (datasheets, manuals, installation guides).
* Contribute to optimizing design processes for quality, speed, and cost efficiency.
* Work closely with Quality, Sales, Operations, and Business Development teams.
What We're Looking For
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related).
* 13 years experience in mechanical engineering or product design.
* Confident CAD skills (SolidWorks).
* Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
* Excellent communicator, proactive and collaborative.
* Eligible to work in the UK (no restrictions).
* Full UK driving license.
Bonus Points For
* Knowledge of manufacturing processes (injection moulding, electronics assembly, 3D printing, cleanroom manufacturing).
* Additional training/certification in CAD or Design for Manufacture.
About the Division
This role works closely with a specialist CCTV division that designs and supplies robust, reliable camera systems used across industries such as transport, security, and commercial installations. The engineering team ensures seamless integration of mechanical and electronic design, delivering innovative solutions for demanding environments.
