What you'll be doing As a Technical Claims Consultant within our Commercial Liability Direct team, you’ll lead on complex and challenging liability claims while acting as a trusted expert across the business. You’ll play a key role in our Large & Complex Loss Specialist Claims function, ensuring fair outcomes, technical excellence and continuous improvement in claims handling. Your key responsibilities will be: • Managing a portfolio of complex and high‑value EL, PL, Disease and Product liability claims within your delegated authority. • Conducting comprehensive investigations and working with external experts to validate claims. • Reviewing policy coverage, confirming indemnity positions and ensuring accurate and consistent decision‑making. • Working collaboratively with solicitors and counsel on matters relating to legal liability, litigation strategy and policy interpretation. • Negotiating fair, commercially appropriate and timely settlements. • Staying ahead of legal, regulatory and procedural developments, and contributing to business assessments and guidance. • Acting as a technical specialist, providing expert advice, coaching and support to colleagues to help develop capability across the team. • Supporting continuous improvements in claims strategy and identifying opportunities to enhance processes, efficiency and customer outcomes. What you'll need • Proven experience handling Employers’ Liability, Public Liability, Disease, Product and wider commercial liability claims. • Strong technical background managing complex and higher‑value claims — experience with high‑value losses is desirable. • A solid understanding of common law, liability principles and insurance legislation. • Experience coaching, mentoring or leading a team, with the ability to support others in developing technical capability — leadership or expert advisory experience is highly beneficial. • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to assess complex issues and make confident, well‑reasoned decisions. • Effective communication, influence and negotiation skills, with the confidence to advise senior stakeholders. • A proactive, results‑focused approach with a commitment to delivering excellent customer and business outcomes.
