Overview
The Acute Oncology Service is an essential interface between acute, community services and oncology, supporting personalised care through improved communication, timely access to expert advice, improved patient experience, early discharge and admission avoidance. The team works across the trust as part of the multidisciplinary team including oncologists, radiologists, histologists, physician associates, clinical nurse specialists and inpatient teams. This position is cross-site with a designated base at either Eastbourne, Hastings and Conquest Hospital; the post holder will be required to work autonomously as well as with the immediate and wider teams in the assessment, diagnostic testing and management of acutely unwell cancer patients.
Responsibilities
* Provide advice, instigate investigations and implement patient care to manage the acutely unwell oncology patient.
* Provide essential communication to improve patient experience and quality of care, reducing lengths of stay and where possible averting hospital admissions.
* Support the lead Acute Oncology Nurse Practitioner in the planning and development of the future service in accordance with the Trust's policies and procedures, utilising the most effective resources.
* Work across East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust to provide specialist advice to health professionals for patients presenting with acute symptoms related to their treatment or cancer, and for patients with suspected but undiagnosed cancer.
