Job Description
We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will work in a fast-paced retail environment where no day is the same.
You will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts, co-ordinating a team to deliver a clean and fully stocked store that exceeds customer expectations.
Since the customer is at the heart of everything we do, you will constantly seek ways to improve service through on-the-job coaching and feedback.
You will have a great understanding of your store’s performance and be the specialist in delivering practical actions for its improvement by taking a hands-on approach.
With your guidance, your store will always remain a safe place to work and shop.
You will be Responsible For
1. Coordinate the team to deliver the easiest shopping trip in the community
2. Opening/closing the store and completing duty cover, ensuring decisions are right for customers, colleagues, and safety
3. Being the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for day-to-day operational queries
4. Supporting the Store Manager in coordinating seasonal, community, and charity events, creating an inclusive atmosphere
5. Ensuring the store is always clean, tidy, and well-presented
6. Prioritising the replenishment of products that matter to our customers
7. Ensuring point of sale and shelf edge labels reflect best practices
8. Taking immediate action for overcharges and preventing reoccurrence
9. Proactively managing queues to deliver a great shopping experience
10. Coordinating colleagues to meet daily priorities and manage breaks around trade patterns
11. Being knowledgeable about the store, coordinating improvements
12. Following health and safety routines and ensuring colleagues do the same
13. Delivering effective communication to the team
14. Seeking ways to simplify operations and sharing ideas with the Store Manager
15. Always putting the customer first and considering their needs
16. Resolving customer queries promptly and effectively
17. Adjusting service to meet individual customer needs
18. Recognising and celebrating colleagues providing excellent service
19. Identifying obstacles to great service and helping remove them
20. Resolving colleague queries in the absence of the Store Manager or escalating as needed
21. Ensuring appropriate staffing, reacting to short-term absences by finding cover
22. Being a recognised Keyholder, attending alarm call outs for safety and security
23. Monitoring and acting on internal communications
24. Coordinating colleagues to meet customer and store needs, reporting issues to the Store Manager
25. Balancing time across service and replenishment areas
26. Supporting the Store Manager in managing absence, conducting return-to-work interviews, and reporting absences
27. Building relationships with Area Managers & People Partners, escalating issues, seeking support, and engaging in coaching
28. If this store has a Post Office Local, your duties will include managing daily operations of the post office, which requires passing a background check. Failure to pass will result in withdrawal of the job offer.
