Are you a highly technical 1st Party or Property Underwriter looking to develop your career into a more strategic role? We are hiring a Senior Technical Underwriter / Manager - Property to support our Retail and Specialty (Lloyd’s) lines of business. In this role, you will develop tailored Underwriting Guides to empower our teams to thrive and grow. You will work closely with Property Underwriting Officers and build excellent internal relationships with Senior Underwriters to support the establishment and monitoring of long- and short-term underwriting strategies to effectively achieve profit and growth objectives.
Travelers Europe currently offers flexibility to employees who wish to work on a hybrid basis in accordance with our Hybrid Work Arrangements Policy. This entails full-time employees working three days a week in the office and two days at home (or pro-rata for part-time employees). This policy may be changed at the Company’s discretion.
What Will You Do
1. Contribute to the establishment and monitoring of underwriting strategies that reflect market conditions and global BI appetite.
2. Assist UW Officers in developing and analyzing portfolios from an underwriting perspective using MI/BI data and reporting insights from multiple sources such as Portfolio Management, Business Intelligence, Actuarial, Catastrophe Modelling, Rating, Claims, Production, and other performance data.
3. Identify trends by understanding and monitoring key performance metrics (e.g., portfolio mix, drivers of underwriting performance, claims performance by cause and attrition, geography, segment, distribution channel, rate targets, etc.).
4. Assist UW Officers with analysis to explain portfolio changes, providing clear insights into account structure and performance, and setting strategies for rate adequacy and pricing. Prepare data and narratives for treaty reinsurance and compile/monitor regulatory returns like MID, Lloyd’s SBF Narrative, Pool Re, etc.
5. Collaborate with Product Development, AVPs, Portfolio & Product Managers to develop and update underwriting guidance and best practices, ensuring guidelines are fit for purpose.
6. Support monitoring of legal, regulatory, and statutory environments in trading territories, industry developments, and claims trends, making recommendations for underwriting strategy revisions.
7. Assist the BI UWO in overseeing and engaging in the approval, sign-off, and development of policy wordings and product underwriting guidance, including product appetite.
8. Help establish underwriting and pricing guidelines, ensuring the repository of technical underwriting guidance remains up-to-date.
9. Participate in preparing reports and presenting at Collaborative Underwriting Reviews (CUREs), Portfolio Reviews, and contribute to Peer Reviews and Underwriter Level Reviews.
10. Assist in reviewing training needs and creating/delivering training to Underwriters.
