Strategic Design and Transition Programme – Strategy Policy Specialist – 32182
We are looking for an experienced Strategy and Policy Specialist to be part of the central Strategic Design and Transition Programme. This unique opportunity will shape the future direction of the Environment Agency in response to the Independent Water Commission’s recommendations.

Responsibilities
* Provide high‑quality, evidence‑based advice on future thinking linked to the IWC report recommendations, particularly the proposal to create a single water regulator.
* Engage with colleagues across government, within the EA and other regulators to keep stakeholders informed and aligned.
* Create constructive dialogue and foster diverse perspectives in a fast‑moving environment.
* Offer flexibility; assist other projects and workstreams within the programme as priorities shift.
* Contribute to building a high‑performing, agile team capable of managing high demand and ambiguity.
Qualifications
* Experience developing policy for central government, working with specialists such as economists and scientists.
* Strategic thinking and the capacity to influence at all levels.
* Excellent communication and engagement skills, able to translate complex or ambiguous information into clear, actionable advice on short notice.
* Proven ability to collaborate across boundaries and influence stakeholders.
Contract
Up to 12 months. Flexible national location; travel, including occasional overnight stays, may be required.
