Job Title: Project Engineer – Multidisciplinary Projects

Role Overview:
As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for providing end-to-end engineering support across a complex multidisciplinary infrastructure project. You will play a key role in early-stage design development, coordinating cross-discipline design activities, ensuring alignment with TfL’s standards and assurance pathways, and driving stakeholder engagement. You will also lead on technical resourcing, provide engineering leadership to supporting discipline engineers, and ensure the design meets project and business requirements, including MVP (Minimum Viable Product) delivery principles.
Key Responsibilities:
* Technical Leadership:
* Lead engineering activities across multiple disciplines in the early design phases.
* Act as a primary point of contact for technical coordination between internal and external design teams.
* Design Development & Coordination:
* Drive and coordinate multidisciplinary design deliverables ensuring integration across all disciplines.
* Ensure designs align with project scope, TfL standards, and the principles of the MVP approach.
* Identify and resolve technical challenges early to de-risk design development.
* Stakeholder Engagement:
* Proactively engage with key internal and external stakeholders to gain design approval and buy-in.
* Facilitate technical workshops, reviews, and presentations to secure alignment on design direction.
* Assurance & Approvals:
* Navigate the TfL Pathway and Engineering Assurance processes to secure timely approvals.
* Ensure designs comply with all relevant regulations, safety standards, and TfL technical requirements.
* Prepare and submit documentation for design assurance reviews and support audit processes.
* Resourcing & Forecasting:
* Plan and forecast engineering resource needs for all project phases.
* Track performance against forecast to ensure resource efficiency.
* Compliance & Standards:
* Ensure all work is delivered in accordance with TfL’s technical standards, governance processes, and project delivery frameworks.
* Promote engineering best practices and continuous improvement across the project team.
* Proven experience as a Project Engineer in a multidisciplinary infrastructure project (preferably within TfL/Network Rail)
* Strong understanding of the TfL Pathway, Engineering Assurance, and Stage Gate processes.
* Experience in resource planning, forecasting, and working within matrixed engineering teams.
* Demonstrable experience coordinating complex design activities and driving cross-functional integration.
* Skilled in early-stage design and option development.
* Familiarity with Minimum Viable Product (MVP) concepts and their application in infrastructure projects.
* Ability to lead stakeholder discussions and achieve consensus on technical matters.
* Knowledge of TfL engineering standards, HSE requirements, and assurance documentation.
* Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
* 8+ years.
Qualifications:
* Degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or related discipline).
* Chartered Engineer status (or working toward it) with a relevant institution (e.g., ICE, IMechE, IET).
