Job Summary
County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust is hiring a permanent Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to work at Bishop Auckland Hospital and provide one session in the community with communication-disordered patients. The successful postholder will deliver routine communication therapy rehabilitation to stroke and elderly care patients in an in-patient setting and in their own homes, create communication-aid resources, and support qualified Speech and Language Therapists.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver routine communication therapy and rehabilitation to stroke and elderly care patients in hospital and home settings.
* Create and manage communication-aid resources.
* Travel independently across the Trust countywide to support patients in community settings.
* Maintain excellent organisational and communication skills to achieve best patient outcomes.

* Monthly staff meetings.
* Regular management supervision.
* Peer support groups.
* Annual appraisal.
* In-service training.
* Well-resourced department with good IT access and a mobile-working laptop and phone.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
* NVQ level 3 in social care (minimum).
* Good verbal and written communication skills.
* Good interpersonal skills.
* Knowledge of routine strategies and techniques for facilitating adult communication skills.
* Ability to make straightforward judgments and plan and organise one’s own caseload.
* Well-developed empathic and listening skills.
* Able to travel independently countywide.
* Valid full UK driving licence.
* High standard of computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.
* Experience working with adults or another vulnerable communication-impaired group.
Desirable:
* NVQ level 3 health and social care.
