The Production Planner plays a key role in ensuring our manufacturing operations run safely, efficiently, and in line with customer expectations. This role supports our commitment to quality, sustainability, and operational excellence by coordinating production schedules, aligning resources, and enabling smooth communication across departments.
The purpose of the role is to develop and manage production plans, optimise resource usage, maintain inventory accuracy, and support long‑term growth through effective planning and collaboration.
1.Create and Manage Production Schedules
* Develop detailed production plans aligned with customer demand, inventory levels, and operational capacity.
* Use forecasting tools and historical data to anticipate requirements and adjust schedules proactively.
* Maintain a rolling schedule that reflects real‑time changes in demand, supply, and resource availability.
* Communicate schedules clearly to production teams and relevant departments update them regularly.
* Ensure raw materials are counted and JDE is updated accurately before production runs on a weekly basis working all department to deal with stock discrepancies.
2. Assess Resource Requirements
* Working the Operations Team to determine manpower, equipment, and raw material needs for each production cycle.
* Monitor usage rates and lead times to prevent bottlenecks or shortages.
* Support workforce planning by identifying peak periods and aligning resources accordingly.
* Ensuring accurate raw material and stock counts take place on a regular basis (weekly).
* Review and build historical data on raw materials under and over usage and document all stock adjustments.
3. Collaborate Across Departments
* Liaise with Logistics and Customer Services to understand customer priorities and delivery expectations.
* Coordinate with Procurement to ensure timely availability of materials and components.
* Partner with Logistics to align production output with shipping schedules and warehouse capacity.
* Facilitate regular planning meetings to maintain alignment across teams.
4. Monitor and Report on Production Performance & Schedule Adherence
* Track daily, weekly, and monthly production planning metrics such as output, Schedule Adherence, Inventory Evolution and Capacity Report.
* Analyse trends to identify risks and opportunities for improvement.
* Prepare clear, actionable reports for senior management.
* Maintain accurate records to support audits, compliance, and continuous improvement.
* Carry out quarterly stock checks on all raw materials and liaise with Warehouse on finished goods stock checks.
5. Problem‑Solve and Adjust Plans
* Respond quickly to disruptions such as equipment failures, material shortages, or staffing gaps, out of spec raw materials.
* Reprioritise and reschedule plans to minimise impact on delivery timelines.
* Work with all of Operations teams to implement corrective actions and prevent reoccurrence of failures or issues.
* Maintain flexibility to accommodate urgent orders or strategic changes.
Additional Responsibilities
* Demand Forecasting: Support S&OP by analysing usage and supply trends.
* Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels, prevent shortages or overproduction, and ensure raw material accuracy before runs.
* Process Optimisation: Identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements to scheduling and workflow.
* Compliance: Ensure planning processes align with internal SOPs and regulatory requirements.
* Systems & Tools: Use ERP/MRP systems effectively and support system upgrades and data accuracy initiatives to help procurement in supply of raw materials.
Skills & Experience
* Experience in production planning, manufacturing operations, or supply chain coordination.
* Experience in fast‑paced or complex manufacturing environments is highly valued.
* Strong ability to develop, manage, and adjust production schedules.
* Skilled in inventory and supply chain management.
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
* Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., JDEdwards, SAP, Maximo), Excel, and planning tools such as JDE, SNP2, or MPS.
* Cost awareness and the ability to identify efficiency opportunities.
* Adaptability to respond to equipment issues, staffing changes, or urgent customer needs.
Education & Qualifications
* Relevant qualifications in manufacturing, supply chain, or operations (preferred but not essential).
* Professional certifications such as APICS CPIM or Lean Six Sigma are advantageous.
