Overview
Product Development Leader - UKCAA/EASA Part-21 Design role at Dowty, a GE Aerospace company. Responsible for delivering future products from technology maturation through qualification and certification, building product and technology roadmaps, and executing projects and demonstrator programmes to meet customer requirements. Leads a team of technology specialists and engineering project managers to develop and enhance the business capabilities and coordinate activities across the engineering function.
Responsibilities
* Collaborate cross-functionally to evolve and maintain product and technology roadmaps as part of the strategy process, aligning with customer, industry, and market developments.
* Build execution plans to deliver technology and product roadmaps, balance investment and resources, and maintain integration with the programme management team to align needs and outcomes with the wider business.
* Lead, support, and develop the product development team, including recruitment, induction, career development, appraisals, training, coaching, and mentoring.
* Engage with engineering discipline leaders to share demand and agree resource supply plans to achieve objectives and enhance capabilities.
* Engage with technical authorities to communicate development needs, obtain expertise, and align on technical direction.
* Lead technical excellence within the team, including engagement in technical activities and the development of processes and practices.
* Oversee budgeting and spend tracking, including labour vouchering, travel expenses, project spend, and related processes.
* Uphold Lean principles and lead Lean activities to achieve business priorities.
* Provide regular communication and reporting on status, projects, investigations, activities, risks, issues, and opportunities.
* Participate in the engineering leadership team to improve effectiveness and processes that support the business activities.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications This role requires significant experience in Engineering/Technology & Functional Management. Knowledge level comparable to a Master’s degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma with relevant experience).
Desired Characteristics
* Experience in engineering product development in aerospace or a similarly regulated industry, ideally in a UKCAA/EASA Part-21 Design Organisation
* Technical background in complex systems (mechanical, aircraft control, and/or electronic control) with knowledge of hydro-mechanical control systems advantageous
* Adept at applying and enhancing technology roadmapping and capability maturation processes
* Strength in customer relationship management
* Established project management skills with ability to lead programs/projects
* Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
* Strong oral and written communication skills
* Structured problem-solving abilities
