Job Title: Nursery Nurse - Children's Burns Ward
An exciting opportunity has become available on the Children's Burns Ward for a Nursery Nurse within our small, friendly team. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, hardworking, empathetic, and has good communication skills. The successful candidate should enjoy working with children and their families.
No prior burns care experience is required, as training will be provided on the job. The ward is part of The St Andrew's Centre, which is home to a world-renowned specialist burns and plastic surgery service. It primarily serves children up to 16 years old from the South East of England, but may also admit patients from across the country in case of bed shortages.
Key Responsibilities
1. Support registered nurses and other team members in providing high-quality care to patients.
2. Assist with wound care and dressing changes for burn patients, both on the ward and occasionally at outreach locations.
3. Work with play specialists to create a child-friendly environment, including distraction techniques during procedures.
4. Undertake clinical observations within your competence and escalate concerns appropriately.
5. Understand safeguarding procedures for both adults and children, and report/document as necessary.
6. Help maintain a safe environment by preparing and cleaning rooms and equipment, with a focus on infection prevention.
