We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced counsellor with experience working with children to join our Children Looked After (CLA) service. This is a part-time role and is ideal for someone who has at least 12 months of counselling experience post-registration with a relevant professional body.
Main duties of the job
This position will work under the line management of the Service Lead and Senior Practitioner. The role is varied, challenging, and rewarding, involving collaboration as part of a diverse clinical team to develop the service through co-production, delivery, and ongoing innovation.

Job responsibilities
Main Tasks:
* Deliver therapeutic interventions to children and young people, working independently, which may include travel and lone working.
* Provide counselling to young people.
* Develop alternatives to one-to-one therapeutic work, such as group work.
* Facilitate peer support interventions for children and young people.
* Maintain confidential case notes and records promptly, ensuring secure storage using the specified case management systems.
* Develop links with other agencies and services, understanding local services for signposting and referrals.
* Proactively manage risk and respond to child protection and safeguarding issues.
Communication
* Engage effectively with children and young people, suitable to their individual needs.
* Ensure young people feel listened to, respected, and in control.
* Be a team player.
Working Practice Expectations
Ethical Practice
Practitioners must adhere to the Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) or an equivalent standard.
Professional Membership and Registration
Practitioners should maintain active membership with a recognised national body (e.g., BACP, UKCP, HCPC). Ideally, they will pursue accreditation or registration and complete annual CPD. Costs for memberships and CPD are borne by the practitioner.
Liability Insurance
Practitioners are covered against malpractice liability by ABL insurance.
Supervision
Practitioners are required to attend supervision at least 1.5 hours per FTE per month with an approved qualified supervisor. This time is included in the contract.

Qualifications

Disclosure and Barring Service Check
This role is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions Order 1975). A disclosure check will be required for any criminal convictions.
Salary ranges from £24,000 to £27,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience (pro-rata).
