For over 30 years, the Angelou Centre has stood with Black and racialised women and children. We are a Black-led organisation based in Newcastle, specialising in support for thoseat risk of or affected by domestic abuse and other forms of Violence AgainstWomen and Girls (VAWG).
We providetrauma-informed, culturally responsive services that help women, childrenand young people recover from violence, abuse and discrimination - rebuilding safety, confidence and independence.

The Operations Manager will provide oversight across administration, compliance, governance, facilities and HR to ensure the Angelou Centre operates effectively and efficiently. You will ensure that the Centre is safe and welcoming for staff and serviceusers, maintains compliant and efficient operational systems, and deliverkey projects on time and to high standards.
This is a key leadership role requiring strong organisational, problem-solving, and people- management skills, with the abilityto design and embed systemsthat strengthen our work and improve our workplace.
Our ideal candidate is someone who:
* Has significant experience in an operations, administration, or HR role. Ideallywithin the charity sector.
* Has excellent knowledge of HR best practices withinthe UK and robust knowledgeof UK employment law.
* Isexcited to join The AngelouCentre during a period of growth, workingstrategically with the Executive Director to strengthen and improve HR practices.
* Demonstrate strong leadership skills to developand inspire staff teams, embedding a culture of learning, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
* Has lived experience of, or a deep understanding of, the structural inequalities from the perspective of Black and racialised women.
Key Responsibilities
Operational oversight & Administration
* Ensure operational systemsare fit for purpose, regularly reviewed, and continuously improved across the organisation, including recording of assets,filing, archiving, and record-keeping.
* Oversee the management, safety,and maintenance of The AngelouCentre’s main building, ensuring compliance with health & safety and building regulations.
* Manage relationship and contracts with suppliers and maintenance providers.
* Lead on compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements, including Charity Commission, Companies House,Health & Safety,employment law and safeguarding.
* Lead on GDPR compliance and ensure data protection standards are met acrossthe organisation.
* Oversee operational systems, IT infrastructure, and contracts with service providers to support efficient and secure working.
HR & People Management
* Oversee HR systems and processes, ensuringcompliance with employment law and best practice.
* Maintain and improve organisational and HR policies,procedures, and processes ensuring confidentiality and compliance.
* Lead the design and delivery of The AngelouCentre’s HR strategy,ensuring alignment with The Angelou Centre’s vision, values and strategic plan.
* Develop and implement a Learning & Development framework to build staff and volunteer skills, leadership capacity, and career progression.
* Oversee recruitment, induction, probation, appraisal, and performance management processes in close consultation with team leads.
* Embed equality, diversity, and inclusion principles across all people management practices.
* Monitor HR metrics (turnover, training uptake, performance reviews) and provide quarterly reports to the Executive Director and Board.
Leadership & Governance
* Act as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to strategic planning and organisational decision-making.
* Ensure effective governance administration, including Board support,policy reviews, and risk management.
* Develop and maintain operational risk registers and ensure mitigation measures are in place.
* Provide timely HR, operational, and project deliveryreports to the Executive Director.
* Support Board recruitment, induction, and ongoing training.
* Represent The AngelouCentre at relevantstrategic forums, networks, and events.
* Prepare and submitquarterly trustee reportsfor Board meetings, summarising KPI’s,
highlighting key achievements, challenges and upcoming priorities
* Work within relevantBoard sub-groups to ensure the Board has suitable plans and practices in place in relationto employment law, employee relations and strategic planning.
* Support the Executive Director in their role to report to the Board on progressand all matters relating to the discharge of its responsibilities, to enable it to fulfil its roles and responsibilities with respect to AC’s legal obligations
Experience and Skills
* Proven experience in senior administration roles and projectmanagement
* Proven experience in HR policiesand best practices
* Strong track record in operational management, including facilities oversight, compliance, and supplier/contract management.
* Demonstrable experience in projectmanagement, including planning, delivery, monitoring, and evaluation of multi-stakeholder projects.
* Experience in designing and delivering training,staff development programmes, and wellbeing initiatives.
* Proven experience in HR policydevelopment and staff training
* Experience of developing and maintaining operational systems, including HR records, governance administration, and regulatory compliance.
* Experience of leadingdiverse teams, settingobjectives, and managing performance.
* Experience of maintaining and developing servicesthat meet the needs of Black and minoritised women and children.
* Solid experience in finance wouldbe an asset
Knowledge & Qualifications
* Strong knowledge of UK employment law, safeguarding legislation, GDPR, and charity governance requirements.
* Knowledge of health& safety, buildingcompliance, and risk management processes.
* Understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion best practice in a workplace setting.
* Awareness of the barriersand systemic inequalities experienced by Blackand racialised women.
* ACIPD Level 5 or equivalent HR qualification (or significant experience at an equivalent level) would be a plus.
