Location: Plymouth, Crownhill.

Salary & Benefits
The commencing salary is A GBP 32,644 per annum inclusive of a 20‑shift allowance, plus a maximum of A GBP 2,500 weekend working allowance (claimable once the attached shift pattern is completed after training). There is potential to earn up to A GBP 38,330 after reaching 4 years of service.
Training Programme
You will begin with an initial 7‑week training course, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 4 pm at Police Headquarters, Exeter. Following this, you will start your Contact Officer shift pattern and be assigned a tutor in the Contact Centre for ongoing support. An additional 2‑week training course will take place at Exeter Headquarters before returning to the Contact Centre. Travel to Exeter is required. During training, no annual leave will be granted. Training will take place from 22 July to 11 September 2026, with a further course planned for October 2026 (exact dates to be confirmed).
Responsibilities
* Handle emergency and non‑emergency calls professionally, with empathy and patience.
* Listen to vital details and ask the right questions to log information quickly and accurately.
* Provide help to community members as the first point of contact.
* Exercise emotional resilience when dealing with distressed individuals and sensitive information.
* Work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends and some bank holidays.
Working Hours & Tenure
The role is full‑time with a fixed shift pattern that cannot be adjusted. Requests for flexible working patterns can be submitted after you are in the role; however, these cannot be guaranteed and are reviewed against operational needs. The position requires a minimum two‑year tenure period before you can apply for internal vacancies.
