About the Setting
This setting is a unique alternative provision located in a beautiful woodland environment. It offers a low-demand, nurturing, and therapeutic space where children aged 7–14 who struggle in traditional school settings can thrive.
Instead of classroom-based teaching, learning is entirely practical, hands-on, and outdoor-focused. The curriculum is built around activities like bushcraft skills, woodland walks, physical challenges, archery, axe throwing, shooting, woodwork, and various practical projects. The core mission is to help children with complex needs - including SEMH, ASD, and anxiety - develop confidence, self-esteem, social skills, emotional regulation, and overall wellbeing.
Roles & Responsibilities
As a SEN Instructor, you will deliver engaging outdoor and practical learning sessions while providing essential supervision, guidance, and emotional support. You will:
* Deliver hands-on learning through bushcraft, physical challenges, nature-based activities, woodwork, and target sports (such as archery and axe throwing).
* Use therapeutic, low-demand approaches to confidently manage behavior, de-escalate anxiety, and support children's emotional needs in real-time.
* Comfortably manage and support 1:1 and small groups of children within a dynamic outdoor environment.
* Act as a resilient, adaptable, and trusted role model, focusing heavily on connection and positive relationship-building.
* Ensure all outdoor activities and practical projects are delivered safely across all seasions.
What You’ll Need
* Proven experience working with vulnerable children or learners with complex needs (SEMH, ASD, and anxiety).
* Practical skills for outdoor learning and a genuine comfort working outside in all weather conditions and seasons.
* A highly practical, hands-on approach paired with a flexible attitude, resilience, and adaptability.
* Relevant professional qualifications.
* Confidence in supporting emotional regulation and managing challenging behaviors in a calm, therapeutic manner.
* Valid right to work in the UK.
* An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to complete one).
Desirable
* An interest or background in outdoor activities like bushcraft, archery, or forest scchools.
* Experience in alternative provisions (AP), therapeutic settings, or outdoor education.
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is considered a bonus, but is not essential
