The post holder will work as a member of the large Occupational Therapy team within the North London Forensic Service (NLFS). The NLFS provides medium and low secure inpatient services for male and female clients diagnosed with major mental illness, Learning Disability, and Autism, who have been in contact with the criminal justice system. It also offers specialist forensic outreach services.

This position specifically focuses on the inpatient Learning Disabilities and Autism pathway of the forensic service, comprising a medium secure ward, a low secure ward, and a community forensic Learning Disability team.

The role involves delivering Occupational Therapy to a designated caseload within the Learning Disability and Autism pathway, emphasizing functional daily living skills, mental health, and risk issues. Responsibilities include assessment, treatment, evaluation of clinical interventions, planning and conducting individual and group therapy sessions, performing functional assessments, and contributing to multidisciplinary team care planning and risk assessments.

The post holder will collaborate closely with the Multi-Disciplinary Team, relevant external agencies, the Clinical Specialist OT lead for the pathway, Band 5 OT’s, and Technical Instructors to provide a responsive, high-quality service tailored to clients' needs.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Conduct Occupational Therapy assessments, treatment, and evaluations for an assigned caseload, adhering to the care programme approach.
2. Undertake the MOHOST and other assessments as directed by the service OT pathway.
3. Plan and deliver group and individual assessment and treatment sessions within the service.
4. Ensure daily feedback from nursing staff before commencing work on the ward.
5. Perform standardized assessments and provide detailed feedback to the multidisciplinary team regarding clients’ abilities and future planning.
6. Engage clients in treatment planning whenever possible.
7. Motivate clients to attend and participate in Occupational Therapy sessions.
8. Communicate treatment plans and clinical reasoning to team members and collaborate effectively with other disciplines.
