An exciting opportunity has arisen in Gateshead Health Day Surgery Unit for a band 7 Ward Manager.
Day Surgery is an essential part of the Trust's Elective Recovery Programme with opportunities to lead and develop in a variety of ways with the support of the Theatre and Day Surgery Manager and a well developed and engaged team.
The post will incorporate the senior leadership role dimensions of expert clinical practice, education, leadership, management, and research.
The successful post holder will be a highly skilled member of the nursing team responsible for all aspects of patient care including the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of a high standard of care to patients and their families, in line with the Trusts values and vision of working to reduce waiting times for elective surgical patients.
Main duties of the job
The Day Surgery unit will admit and care for the majority of patients on an elective surgical pathway with a wide variety of surgical pathways and specialities. The Ward Manager will work closely with the Theatre Manager, surgical teams, anaesthetic colleagues and operational teams to plan and a deliver a first class clinical service. Including-
* Responsibility for the patient's clinical journey along agreed patient care pathways, supported by evidence based practice.
* Taking overall responsibility for ensuring safe staffing levels and the monitoring of planned versus actual staffing levels.
* Responsible for the effective and efficient operational management of the ward/dept
To provide the highest standard of safe, effective and compassionate care through the effective use of evidence based practice in line with agreed local and national standards and the NMC/ HCPC Code.
To provide a continuously improving service in line with the clinical governance framework, Trust objectives, and the NHS performance framework
To provide clinical leadership, expertise, advice and support to the nursing and multi - professional team to facilitate the effective delivery of care to patients at all times.
To support and continually develop staff to ensure they have the appropriate level of skill, knowledge and competence to meet service/speciality requirements.
