In this role, you will be responsible for the design, operation, and development of drivetrain and future energy system test programmes, with a particular emphasis on electrical testing activities. This will involve engaging with clients, providing technical leadership within projects, managing defined project tasks, and delivering high-quality technical outputs.
What will I do?
* Lead test design and execution for assigned powertrain test programmes, supervising junior staff as required.
* Support technical discussions with clients regarding project objectives, test methods and reporting requirements;
* Set up and configure test pieces, electrical systems, and instrumentation.
* Operate test equipment and acquire data in line with defined procedures.
* Analyse test data and author technical reports suitable for internal management and external clients.
* Act as a technical point of contact with clients on defined projects, supporting discussions on methods, load cases, and results.
* Support business growth by engaging with clients, preparing proposals, and supporting new service offerings.
* Support failure investigations, capture lessons learned, and contribute to process improvements.
* Supervise junior engineers and technicians during test campaigns.
* Oversee calibration, instrumentation, and data acquisition activities, ensuring technical quality.
* Manage small work packages or sub-projects, including planning, resource allocation, and delivery.
* Developing new or improved work procedures under supervision.
* Deputise for the Test Manager in defined situations.
* Support the Maintenance Team to ensure the test equipment and systems are in a safe, operational condition prior and during the test process.
What are we looking for?
* Relevant electrical biased degree or equivalent in a suitable engineering discipline, preferably at Masters level;
* 4 years + post degree industry experience; including delivering testing programmes.
* Technical knowledge / experience in the principles of testing, failure modes, engineering design, instrumentation, control systems, manufacturing and fabrication, assembly and installation, operation and maintenance, commissioning and offshore renewable infrastructure;
* Knowledge of diagnostic techniques and remedial actions for test equipment.
* Highly computer literate, with a detailed working knowledge of Matlab or similar programming platforms
* Strong communication skills, with ability to present technical work to management and external peers
* Experience preparing technical reports, data analyses, or documentation with minimal review required.
* Demonstrated track record of supervising, mentoring, or training junior colleagues.
* Experience managing small projects or sub-tasks to time, cost, and quality.
* Knowledge of SHEQ standards and safe working practices.
* Client-facing experience, able to engage confidently in technical discussions.
* Knowledge of Powertrain systems (converters, motors and power electronics).
* Ability to work flexibly around testing requirements, including work at height and confined spaces.
* Awareness of ISO 9001 and IEC 17025 standards.
* Proficiency in Matlab/Simulink and data acquisition tools such as SCADA, LabVIEW, or Diadem.
Desirable
* Experience with Simulink, PLECS, PSIM, or other electrical simulation tools
* Knowledge of instrumentation and calibration of electrical measurements.
* Knowledge of renewable energy systems and drivetrain technologies.
* Familiarity with future energy systems such as battery storage, power-to-X, and power conversion technologies (transformers, converters).
