The Leonardo Cyber Security Division is looking to recruit Principal Systems Engineers to join its new Yeovil based engineering team with responsibility for the design and build of a variety of classified ICT products and solutions for use within defence, government or public sector organisations.
As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will typically lead the technical work and small teams within a larger team on the design, development, and testing of secure systems, including but not limited to; Information Management Systems, Command and Control systems, Security Monitoring of IT, IoT, and CNI systems and services.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to take ownership and implement the engineering delivery of one or more work packages, including planning, estimation, execution, and progress reporting of your own workload and that of other team members.
Key Responsibility Areas:
1. System Design – contribute to system and low-level design using technical experience, judgment, and best practices;
2. Development, integration, and testing of system solutions, including scripting for automation and integration;
3. Progress and status reporting to internal customers;
4. Configuration and administration of security tools such as SIEM systems, IDS/IPS, Endpoint Detection and Response, etc.;
5. Troubleshooting system issues and faults to diagnose problems and propose solutions;
6. Implementation of security controls including operating system lockdowns;
7. Development of systems engineering artifacts and documentation for delivery and maintenance;
8. Mentoring team members in areas of expertise;
9. Providing technical support to the business unit, supporting projects or programs, including bid development/evaluation;
10. Working with external vendors to develop robust and cost-effective solutions.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in systems engineering or IT solution delivery, preferably in a secure environment, with strong technical skills and knowledge of network and systems infrastructure technologies. An awareness of cybersecurity capabilities is advantageous. The role requires the candidate to be a sole UK national with DV clearance.
Good knowledge and experience of Wintel IT systems, including:
* Microsoft Active Directory services
* Windows and Linux server installation and configuration
* Virtualization technologies such as VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V
* Workstation builds and deployments including Microsoft WDS and MDT
* Microsoft Office suite
* Microsoft products like Exchange, SQL, SCOM, ISA/TMG, IIS, SharePoint
* Implementing security policies, system lockdowns, GPOs, application whitelisting/blacklisting, device/media control
* Managing enterprise patching solutions like WSUS
