Senior Civil Engineer – Transmission & Distribution (Multiple Locations, UK)
Working at Mott MacDonald, a global engineering, management and development consultancy, we offer an opportunity to join our Energy Team based at several UK locations: Cardiff, Altrincham, Bristol, Glasgow, Brighton, Croydon, Belfast. The role is full‑time, permanent.
Overview of the Role
Our office‑based department provides Civil Engineering expertise for high‑voltage electricity overhead line and cable projects, covering feasibility, consenting, outline and detailed design for clients such as National Grid, Scottish & Southern Energy, EirGrid, Northern Ireland Electricity and senior contractors.
Responsibilities
* Project management
* Design coordination across multidisciplinary teams
* Client liaison
* Proposal writing and scheme costings
* Optioneering and appraisal works
* Front End Engineering Design (FEED)
* Preparation of drawings for planning applications and tender packages
* Detailed civil engineering design
* Cable routing design
Candidate Specification
Previous experience of linear infrastructure civil engineering projects – such as high‑voltage electricity, water pipelines, utilities or highway developments – is required. As a Senior Engineer you will lead project teams and mentor junior engineers.
We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate
* Experience delivering linear civil engineering infrastructure projects, e.g., highways, water infrastructure or utilities.
* A proven ability to deliver projects to an identified budget and schedule.
* Experience mentoring junior civil engineering professionals.
* Regular interaction with clients.
* Effective teamwork producing reports, designs and drawings.
* Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
* Proficient IT skills, including MS Office, Teams and Outlook.
* Experience with Autodesk Civil 3D or GIS considered beneficial but not essential.
Qualifications
Degree in Civil Engineering. Working towards ICE Chartership or Chartered.
Location & Travel
Our team is spread across the UK and Europe, with short‑term site visits to meet clients and contractors as required.
