Rock Power Connections, part of Mitie Power & Grid, deliver projects on Solar, BESS and other HV Electrical systems including ICP and EV. Our head office is located in Bromsgrove, however our projects span the length and breadth of the UK. The Rock Power Connections Commercial Dept. manage all Commercial and Procurement activity across the Rock Power Connections business, working closely with our colleagues in Tendering, Operations, Programming / Planning, Finance & HSQE.
The Quantity Surveyor, reporting to the Commercial Manager will be responsible for the commercial management of projects and will utilise existing commercial systems and processes to deliver profitable performance in line with Business Objectives.
This role will take commercial responsibility for the company's larger Major projects as well as providing support to the project managers on lower value / higher volume ICP and EV projects. This will include all aspects of post Contract award Commercial Management, including but not limited to cost & value Reporting, change management and control, project end life forecasting, cash collection & cash flow forecasting, effective procurement & subcontract management / administration, financial and contractual management and effective controls to ensure a profitable outcome for the business. Assisting the wider project team with Commercial guidance as and when required and forming effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
Main Duties
1. Draft, review and negotiate terms and conditions of subcontracts post tender award.
2. Procurement of specialist packages and major plant / materials
3. Build and manage relationships with chosen subcontractors and supply chain partners.
4. Provision of commercial and contractual support to the tendering and bidding process.
5. Responsible for the management and governance of all aspects of multiple contracts in accordance with commercial procedures and KPI's, to include forecasting, budget management and control
6. Monitor the performance of works ensuring all deadlines are met, manage and mitigate potential commercial disputes
7. Lead contract commercial reviews
8. Implement progress and cost management reviews, preparation and presentation of contract specific progress reports and active participation in contract reviews and/or customer meetings
9. Ensure a proactive approach to positive cashflow at all times
10. Track and manage any contractual change, ensuring both additional time and cost are captured and communicated in line with Contractual obligations
11. Work closely with both Project and Programme Managers to effectively deliver projects in line with tendered expectations
12. Own the CVR Process and ensuring these are updated as required and prepared for monthly CVR presentation to Commercial Manager and Board members.
13. Closely monitor any potential liquidated damages or other penalty mechanisms and report as necessary
14. Closely monitor any project risks and opportunities, reporting these correctly as part of CVR process
15. Office based but requirement to travel to our project sites will be required on an ad-hoc basis, overnight stays will be a requirement of the role.
What we are looking for
16. Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management ideally at degree level and hold professional qualification such as RICS are both desirable, but not essential
17. Previous Experience in a similar project-based role, ideally in a similar or related industry, e.g. engineering, utilities, construction or rail
18. Experience of working within a contractor and/or project environment
19. Strong knowledge of Civils & HV works (both are desirable, but only one is essential)
20. Experience of working on NEC3/4, FIDIC & JCT forms of Contract (all 3 forms desirable but not essential)
21. An excellent communicator who can build strong relationships, both internally and externally
22. A team player who can and will support the wider dept.
