G10: £47,181 – £50,269 per annum plus 10% for unsociable hours
Walsall Council’s Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) Team is inviting a Senior Practitioner – AMHP to join its dedicated 24/7 AMHP Hub team. The role involves shift‑based work, autonomous decision‑making, and a person‑centred approach to referrals.
Responsibilities
* Make autonomous decisions on mental health referrals under Section 13.
* Co‑ordinate and complete MHA assessments where appropriate.
* Manage day‑to‑day running of the 24/7 AMHP Hub, including shift planning and service delivery.
* Serve as a supportive partner to colleagues, families and other professionals, listening and working collaboratively.
* Keep up to date with legislation, case law and best practice, including the Human Rights Act, MHA, Code of Practice and related statutes.
* Assist the AMHP Lead with service development and quality improvement.
Qualifications
* Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) qualification with relevant certifications.
* Professional qualification such as Social Work, Psychiatric Nursing, Occupational Therapy or Psychology.
* Good working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Human Rights Act and related legislation.
* Ability to work flexibly in different shift patterns, including long days and nights.
* Excellent listening skills and ability to manage independent decision‑making that may conflict with others’ views.
* Strong knowledge base of current human rights legislation and case law.
