National Highways has an excellent opportunity for a Net Zero Senior Advisor to join our Environmental Sustainability Division within Safety, Engineering and Standards (SES). The Senior Advisor will develop and implement decarbonisation policies, standards, and best practices across the company. They will provide specialist technical advice and guidance, acting as the focal point to ensure alignment between the development, renewal, and maintenance of National Highways assets and the Environmental and Sustainability Strategy.
Please note this is a hybrid position, based from any of our UK offices, with travel to Birmingham for team meetings required.
Responsibilities:
1. Provide specialist expertise on carbon, focusing on construction, maintenance, innovation, and decarbonisation pathways.
2. Ensure technical assurance of carbon submissions and data, supporting actions to meet performance metrics.
3. Represent National Highways on net zero-related committees, steering groups, conferences, and workshops; contribute to external standards development.
4. Develop technical solutions, communicate with stakeholders, and manage external consultancy support to achieve objectives.
5. Engage internal and external stakeholders to promote Net Zero objectives, sharing best practices in low carbon materials, innovation, asset resilience, and carbon data assurance.
About you:
* Chartered engineer or environmental specialist with membership in a relevant professional institution (e.g., ICE, CIWEM, CIEEM, IEMA) or equivalent recognition; willingness to work towards professional accreditation.
* Strong collaboration skills to engage a wide range of stakeholders.
* Excellent communication skills, including presentations and numerical analysis, with proficiency in Excel and other tools.
* Experience in delivering or managing projects.
* Knowledge of legislation and policies related to carbon reduction, climate change mitigation, resilience, and sustainable asset management standards.
