What's involved with this role: Job Title: Housing and Welfare Officer Ref: Walsall RQ1625367 Pay rate: £19.61 per hour PAYE Role length: Anticipated 3 months Working arrangements: Blended working - will be required to work from the office on duty days which is done on a rota and may include out of hours and weekends Additional requirements: Enhanced DBS and Driving Licence The role: We’re seeking a skilled Housing and Welfare Officer to deliver expert advice and support on housing rights, homelessness prevention, welfare benefits, and income maximisation. You will need to have a minimum of 5 GCSEs including Maths and English, with strong customer service, communication, creative, and analytical skills, alongside solid knowledge of relevant legislation, Health & Safety and proven expertise in housing, welfare, council tax, and money management. Key responsibilities: Provide specialist housing and welfare advice, supporting residents in navigating homelessness legislation and welfare benefits Represent customers at tribunals and court hearings related to housing and welfare issues Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to deliver effective services and projects Conduct assessments for housing needs, including eligibility for private rented sector schemes Manage housing applications, prioritisation, and nominations according to policy Provide support to vulnerable groups, including young people, ex-offenders, and those with mental health or substance misuse issues Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with legal and procedural frameworks Handle enquiries through various channels with excellent customer care What the client is looking for: Minimum 5 GCSEs, including Maths and English Language (or equivalent) Strong dedication to outstanding customer service with excellent communication skills Sharp creative and analytical skills to interpret customer data and deliver long-term solutions Solid knowledge of legislation and its impact on customer service delivery Clear understanding of workplace Health & Safety legislation Insightful grasp of complex human interactions and behaviour Proven expertise in Housing Legislation, Welfare Benefits, Council Tax, money management, and related regulations Track record of collaborating with others to drive service improvements Skilled at delivering compelling presentations that clarify and engage How to Apply: Quote the Job Title and Reference Number in your application.
