An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Midwife, Alcohol & Substance Misuse to join the Jessop Wing, Safeguarding Team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. We are looking to recruit an inspirational and highly motivated Midwife with proven skills and abilities.
The successful candidate will demonstrate extensive Safeguarding, Alcohol and Substance Misue knowledge and possess expertise within the remit of Maternity and desirably Neonatal services. A Think Family approach is essential.
The post holder will report to and support the Named Midwife for Safeguarding at Jessop Wing and act as a conduit between staff and external agencies and stakeholders involved in Safeguarding Women, Children and Child Protection.
The Specialist Midwife, Alcohol & Substance Misuse, will be a visible and credible within the Jessop Wing, sharing specialist knowledge, and advice to staff in the clinical environment.

Main duties of the job
Support the Safeguarding Team in all clinical, liaison, and child protection issues that arise with substance misusing clients.
Ensure that local child protection procedures are followed.
This diverse role will include being involved in all aspects of women's reproductive health care and will have a strong emphasis on health promotion, encompassing hard reduction and sexual health care and advice to hard- to - reach women.
To act as a source of expertise, advice and knowledge for mothers, carers and health professionals.
To provide a positive role model for other staff within the maternity unit.
To work in partnership with the Public Health Midwives and staff Midwives in the co-ordination of clinical activities, personally case-loading the most complex clients.
Provide easy access, support and onward referral and liaise with the Specialist Family Planning Team for women who are requesting advice regarding termination of pregnancy.

The Directorate of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology is based at the Jessop Wing which is linked to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. The maternity unit has over 6800 births per year and is a Regional Tertiary Maternity Service with a Level 3 Neonatal Unit of 44 cots. A tertiary Gynae-Oncology service and a changing Gynaecology Service, which includes an Assisted Conception Unit, complete the services within the Directorate.
This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 12 months due to the post being externally funded. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the ongoing source of the external funding and the requirement for the post to be maintained.

* NMC registered Midwife educated to degree level or higher
* Evidence of ongoing professional development
* Safeguarding Children Level 3 Training
* Evidence of completion of a Safeguarding Supervision Course (or willing to work towards)
