Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry, North Bucks OA CMHT
We are looking for a 1 WTE consultant psychiatrist to provide clinical leadership to the North Bucks OA CMHT. This post has become available after the previous postholder moved to another role within the service. The post holder will work closely with the existing consultant psychiatrists (1.2 WTE) within the team. The team base is at The Whiteleaf Centre in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.
Main duties of the job
The Consultant will provide senior medical input and clinical leadership to the North Bucks OA CMHT. Their population catchment area extends from the area surrounding Aylesbury to the more rural north of the county and Buckingham area. The post holder will have their own list of GP surgeries. The population covered takes into account the fact that the post does not include in-patient responsibilities (except as cover).
Duties will include outpatient appointments (including a memory assessment clinic), domiciliary visits, and assessments in patients' homes and care homes; providing support and advice for staff and teaching where appropriate. This list is not exhaustive. The post holder will be responsible for patients seen by themselves and those seen by medical staff directly supervised by the post holder.

Job responsibilities
Applicants must be fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and on the Specialist Register or within six months of attaining their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or an equivalent indicator of training.
Although this is a full-time post, we encourage candidates interested in part-time work to apply.
We offer a relocation allowance of up to £8,000 for eligible successful candidates.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent qualification (per Royal College of Psychiatrists' guidelines)
* Approved clinician Status and Section 12( MHA) approval are essential. Candidates in the process of obtaining AC approval will be considered.
* Higher degree or equivalent in relevant medical, psychological, or other studies or postgraduate teaching qualification.
Training
* Higher specialist training in old age psychiatry (or dual training) in an approved training post for at least three years, equivalent training abroad, or relevant previous consultant experience.
* CCT in Psychiatry; or inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register; or within six months of achieving CCT at interview; or CESR.
* Subspecialty or other relevant clinical training.
Clinical Experience and Skills
* Experience of the full range of responsibilities expected of a consultant in this specialty.
* Experience working in a Memory Assessment Service.
* Ability to undertake all consultant responsibilities.
* Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and share leadership responsibilities.
* Understanding of organizational effectiveness.
* Commitment to active clinical governance.
* Excellent communication skills with patients, relatives, colleagues, and staff of other organizations; proficient in spoken and written English.
* Interest and commitment to people with mental health problems and their carers.
* Experience supervising and teaching psychiatric trainees.
* Development of collaboration with primary care services.
* Application of evidence-based practice and interest in clinical and policy developments.
* Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching.
* Supervision of advanced trainees.
* Research skills and experience.
