Job Summary

We are recruiting a Medicines Management Pharmacy Assistant (MMPA) to support Medicine Management Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists at ward level. The role involves patient counselling, assembling medicines at ward level, topping up wards with stock, participating in dispensing prescriptions for in‑patients and performing related pharmaceutical duties.


Key Responsibilities

* Sort returned drugs and waste at ward level, separating items to be credited or discarded and entering returns on the computer.
* Participate in the topping‑up service supplying medicinal product stock to wards and departments, including non‑stock top‑up to one‑stop wards.
* Provide information to patients/carers about prescriptions, payment, exemptions and further supplies according to procedures.
* Supervise, as required, less experienced pharmacy support workers and pre‑registration pharmacy technicians.
* Participate in the in‑house continuing education programme for the medicine management team.


Person Specification


Essential Qualifications / Training

* NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services.
* GCSE grade C or above in English and Maths.


Desirable Qualifications

* NVQ in Customer Services.


Experience

* Experience as a pharmacy support worker in a hospital setting.
* Experience dealing with members of the public in a service capacity.


Desirable Experience

* Pharmacy support work, preferably dispensary based.
* Knowledge of prescription charges and exemptions.


Skills

* Good oral and written communication skills.
* Ability to plan, prioritise and organise workload.
* Good team player.
* Able to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
* Committed to high standards of patient care.


Desirable Skills

* IT literate.
* Proven customer care skills.
* Efficient and accurate dispensing.


Knowledge

* Dispensing.
* Pharmaceutical Practice.


Desirable Knowledge

* Hospital Pharmacy Practice.
* Drug Distribution.

Additional Information

Shift Pattern: Weekly late shift until 6:30 pm, one weekend per 8 days on rota and one bank holiday per year.

Band: Band 3. Salary: £24,937 – £26,598 per annum.

Contract: Permanent, full‑time.
