Overview
Healthcare assistants are a vital part of the team that supports the staff and patients in wards and departments throughout the hospital. Working under the direction of qualified nursing/midwifery staff, healthcare assistants carry out a wide range of duties to care for, support, and provide information to patients and their families. The role can be very varied depending upon the area in which the person is employed. They also carry out housekeeping duties, as well as performing basic medical checks, such as taking a patient’s temperature, pulse and respiration rate.
Responsibilities
* Carry out a wide range of duties to care for, support, and provide information to patients and their families under the direction of qualified nursing/midwifery staff.
* Carry out housekeeping duties and perform basic medical checks (temperature, pulse and respiration rate).
Qualifications / Requirements
* Acute experience and maths and English level 2 (or equivalent).
* Must pass BKSB (Maths and English Functional Skills) test. Successful applicants will proceed to the next stage of the interview; dates to be confirmed.
* Candidates will be required to complete a Maths and English test on the day of the interview.
* Full-time and flexible shift pattern, including long shifts, early shift, late shift, nights, weekends and bank holidays.
* Development pathway to Band 3 Senior Health Care Support Worker role if relevant to the clinical area, and relevant courses and competencies are met.
* Some roles may require weekend shifts at multiple sites.
* Employment is subject to a six-month probationary period.
