Overview

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Speech and Language Therapy NHSGGC, for a temporary (6 month contract) maternity leave backfill Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist, to work within the award winning New Stobhill ACH.

This is an opportunity to develop skills within outpatients seeing a wide variety of adult acquired disorders both in person and virtually, and to develop skills within stroke rehabilitation and care of the elderly in patient settings.

You will be working within a team of SLTs, Healthcare Support Workers and Administrative staff who are motivated to achieve the best possible outcomes for all clients and carers. We welcome applicants who are keen to participate in delivering innovative assessment and therapy approaches within the above settings to join our forward thinking, supportive Speech and Language Therapy team.

Service focus

The service focus is to deliver a consistent service across all 6 service areas within NHS Greater Glasgow and incorporating:

* an SLT practice framework underpinned and supported by Care Aims and effective clinical supervision;
* Practice Development (through agreed Practice Development Networks);
* coherent and effective working with other services, particularly with Children and Family Team and with Partner services;
* improving access to the service via an agreed triage model, effective case allocation and case management, and discharge management supporting achievement of agreed waiting times;
* improving the service balance by shifting the balance of work towards more stage 1/pre-referral work, changes in workforce skill mix, and releasing more clinical time;
* Improving service performance through the agreed service specification and related key performance indicators.

Key Responsibilities

* Direct clinical—professionally and legally accountable and responsible for all aspects of own work including direct and indirect patient care within scope of practice.
* Assesses capacity, gains valid consent and works within a legal framework with patients who lack the capacity to consent, considering Adults with Incapacity Act.
* Assesses and analyses clinical and non-clinical information, and provides a clinical diagnosis for individual patients based on knowledge and experience of a range of conditions within several specialist clinical areas.
* Provides specialist advice to inform clinical decision-making within the multidisciplinary team.
* Acts independently to plan, implement, evaluate, and deliver individual programmes of care to maximise the outcome of intervention, including discharge decisions from SLT caseload.
* Therapy packages such as therapy groups.
* Liaises with a senior SLT as required in management of a specialist ER caseload.
* Works collaboratively with other SLTs and team members on appropriate projects.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience

* Holds Speech & Language Therapy degree or equivalent leading to statutory HCPC registration.
* Requires CPD to validate HCPC annual re-registration to practise in the NHS.
* CPD portfolio contains evidence of relevant training to develop skills and knowledge and keep up to date with new techniques through reading, courses, meetings and special interest groups.

It is essential that you have a degree in Speech and Language Therapy with current HCPC registration and must be trained in the assessment and management of adult dysphagia. The successful candidate will be required to participate in our pioneering weekend working rota and have the opportunity to volunteer for our public holiday rota.
