Join Our Engineering Team: Programme Engineer
We’re looking for a driven and talented Programme Engineer to take the lead on delivering cutting-edge marine engineering equipment projects at MacTaggart Scott. In this role, you’ll be the go-to technical expert, guiding projects from initial proposals right through to final execution, ensuring every solution reflects our commitment to technical excellence and exceeds customer expectations. You’ll enjoy autonomy in your work while collaborating closely with Principal Engineers and the Engineering Design Manager, playing a pivotal role in shaping the success of our engineering programmes.

What is the job about?
The Programme Engineer is responsible for leading the technical aspects of equipment programmes, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet customer requirements. This includes acting as the primary technical liaison with customers, proactively managing programme risks, integrating lessons learned, and ensuring compliance with engineering standards. Success will be measured by the quality and cost-effectiveness of solutions, risk management, and the ability to influence and maintain strong working relationships both internally and with customers.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead all engineering aspects of the programme, ensuring consistency across project design teams.
* Ensure technical compliance, assess risks, and review and authorize engineering documentation.
* Collaborate with the Senior Project Manager to maintain budget and schedule control.
* Act as the key technical contact for customers, managing communications and ensuring satisfaction.
* Provide engineering input during proposal development.
* Proactively manage programme risks and integrate lessons learned into current and future projects.
* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department.
* Maintain awareness of financial impact, health & safety standards, and secure handling of sensitive information.
About You
* Proven track record of leading technical projects and teams.
* Strong problem-solving and innovative thinking skills with a flexible approach.
* Excellent communicator with technical and non-technical audiences.
* Experience in a customer-facing engineering role.
* Intermediate or higher proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential:
* BSc or BEng in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
* Technical expertise in mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical engineering
* Experience creating, reviewing, and authorizing engineering documentation
* Experience managing programme risks and engineering change
Desirable:
* Subsea engineering experience
* Awareness of military environmental requirements (shock, noise & vibration, EMC, etc.)
* Experience using 3D modelling software such as PTC Creo
* MEng or Chartered status in Mechanical Engineering
Special Working Conditions:
* The successful candidate must hold or be able to meet the appropriate Security Clearance as required.
