Hamilton Specialist Referrals is a purpose-built, state-of-the-art veterinary hospital offering the latest in cutting-edge, specialist treatments for cats and dogs, supported by an exceptional rehabilitation and physiotherapy facility.
As part of our surgery team, you will work across our Soft Tissue, Orthopaedic & Neurology departments, providing high-quality nursing care to a variety of cases in each discipline. General responsibilities include:
1. Covering a variety of nursing duties across prep, theatre, wards, and imaging.
2. Ensuring patient stations are set up and ready for the day, including circuit checks in prep and theatre.
3. Preparing anaesthetic trays and drawing up medication.
4. Clipping and prepping patients for procedures.
5. Monitoring patients undergoing diagnostic imaging, surgery, and rechecks.
6. Assisting in theatre to cover the circulatory nurse role.
7. Placing arterial lines, central lines, and administering nerve blocks under supervision.
8. Monitoring patient anaesthesia and sedation.
9. Supporting the surgery & neurology departments and organizing admits and discharges for clients.
10. Maintaining resources required by clinicians, including equipment and stock.
Supporting you in your new role
Experience within a referral setting is preferred but not essential. We provide a comprehensive induction and training period, including IVC Evidensia's ‘Introduction to Referral Nursing' modules, designed for RVNs transitioning from first opinion practice. We seek proactive, enthusiastic, approachable individuals who are great team players, self-motivated, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to multi-task with flexibility.

Working Pattern
This full-time role involves 40 hours per week on a rolling 6-week rota, with a 4-day workweek (4 x 9.25-hour shifts between 07:00-20:30) and a 1-in-6 weekend rota (Saturday and Sunday). We also consider part-time applicants.
