Overview
As a Practice Manager within our Highways and Active Travel team, you will be pivotal in implementing ideas that shape the future of how we move. Our major clients include Highways England, Transport Scotland, the Department for Infrastructure, Local Authorities, TfL, Network Rail, design and build contractors, and other niche clients. You will help shape high‑quality civil and structural designs across new build, renewal, maintenance and assessment works, collaborating with national and international design teams to generate positive, sustainable impacts on society and the environment.
We offer flexible working – typically 2‑3 days per week from the AtkinsRéalis offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh or Belfast.
Your Role
* Grow the team in Scotland and Northern Ireland, working with the market and business development teams to engage with clients and actively sell our technical capabilities.
* Enthuse and motivate our people through effective performance and development plans that align with their career opportunities.
* Work with the Design Transformation and Net Zeros programmes to develop our capability.
* Contribute to the successful delivery of budget requirements, including productivity, management of overheads and headcount through effective management of resources.
* Act as Hiring Manager for the team and ensure a flexible workforce is employed either through permanent staff or supply chain.
* Support the flow of work to the GTC based in India.
* Liaise with the Practice Director to ensure we have sufficient resources with the right skills to deliver our current and future market strategies.
* Support the technical development of staff within their practice team and encourage knowledge sharing.
About you
* Use your experience of successfully leading a team and individual performance to lead the practice teams in a manner that is recognised for technical and delivery excellence, embracing digital innovations and the ability to flexibly respond to business needs.
* Provide line‑manager supervision, overseeing career and talent development for the practice.
* Demonstrate strong collaborative behaviours to interface with the Practice Director, other Practice Managers, Market teams and other stakeholders.
* Undertake technical delivery or project management as appropriate.
* Identify work opportunities and foster strong client relationships, maximising additional, repeat and follow‑on work from clients.
* Participate in bidding activities through coordination with the market and Win Work teams and provide technical input from the practice to support strategic bids.
