The Role:
Working closely with the Indirect Tax Senior Manager, you will support the delivery of National Grid's indirect tax strategy, providing practical, commercially focused advice to the business.
While VAT will be your primary focus, you'll also gain exposure to environmental and emerging taxes including CBAM, Climate Change Levy, customs duties and red diesel. You'll play a key role in strengthening controls, improving processes and supporting the modernisation of tax reporting and systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide indirect tax advice and analysis to support business decisions
Advise on VAT treatment for new services, cross‑border activity, property income and operations
Support preparation and review of UK VAT returns, including National Grid Ventures entities
Manage partial exemption calculations and VAT recovery
Maintain the property VAT register and liaise with property teams
Assess the impact of new legislation and regulatory change
Assist with compliance across other indirect taxes (CBAM, CCL, red diesel)
Coordinate HMRC queries, audits and information requests
Develop internal tax policies, guidance and training
Build strong relationships with Finance, Legal, Shared Services and external advisers
About You:
Strong VAT technical knowledge with experience at Manager level
CTA qualification desirable but not essential
Comfortable working independently in a collaborative, stakeholder‑focused environment
Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
What You'll Get
Competitive base salary
Annual bonus: 15% on target (up to 30%)
Market‑leading pension with up to 12% employer contribution
Flexible benefits including share plans, salary sacrifice schemes and wellbeing support
Hybrid working and flexible arrangements
