The successful candidate will join a small team of academic and professional services colleagues in the School, led by the Head of Department and the Director of Research. A collegiate approach and strong commitment to teamwork are essential.
The School has historically focused on education and is now implementing a phased research strategy. The role involves supporting the School in building its research profile within a strong cross-disciplinary culture at the University of Essex. This includes leveraging existing strengths and exploring research opportunities related to the on-campus commercial 4-star hotel, as well as identifying new research questions to shape the School’s research identity. Generating external income to support research and knowledge transfer, and preparing for REF2028 submissions, are key objectives.
The Lecturer (ASER) will contribute significantly to the School's research strategy and its REF2028 submission, as well as support teaching activities in hospitality, events, and tourism management for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Skills and qualifications required
The candidate should have or be close to completing a relevant doctoral degree, possess professional experience and practice, and have experience working independently in higher education teaching. Evidence of a clear publication plan for future REF submissions is also required.
