Overview
The mental health service lead is responsible for the delivery of high quality mental health, psychological, therapeutic and clinical substance misuse services at HMP Aylesbury.
Responsibilities
* Line‑management, clinical, operational and performance functions of the Mental Health team.
* Effective and efficient resource utilisation, financial awareness and evidence‑based patient care.
* Visible leadership and clinical expertise in partnership with the Consultant Psychiatrist and Head of Healthcare.
* Deliver cost‑effective, well‑organised, evidence‑based and service‑user focused service.
* Ensure targets and performance indicators are met; communicate risks to Deputy Director Operations North and Business and Performance Lead.
* Advance innovative ideas and strategies to improve staff delivery.
* Ensure clinical practice conforms to CQC framework, Professional Practice standards and national policies.
* Implement culture improving outcomes across care pathway for clients.
* Work with Prison and other healthcare providers to provide clear operational policies, procedures and protocols.
* Lead ACCT process and other risk management processes.
* Effective clinical management of patients in in‑patients, segregation, wings/ houseblocks and other areas.
* Provide cover for Head of Healthcare as required.
* Attend local team and clinical review meetings; ensure clinical meetings take place regularly to guide multidisciplinary staff.
* Implement action plans from Service Line Care Quality and Performance meeting.
* Take part in audit processes; ensure recommendations implemented.
* Advice to staff on clinical competence, nursing standards and procedures.
* Ensure nursing issues identified within business planning strategy; communicate Trust Nursing Strategy.
* Ensure clinical notes maintained to agreed standard; clients appropriately assessed, admitted, care planned and discharged.
* Data entered onto systems according to guidelines; incomplete data rectified without delay.
* Lead and advise nursing staff on nutrition, cleanliness, physical care and infection control.
* Develop effective supporting structures for carers in line with CNWL guidelines.
* Manage complaints and serious incidents; undertake investigations per Trust Policy.
