PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £27,600 - £33,500 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
We are looking for a creative and inquisitive journalist to join our team in the Highlands. You will be expected to tell the stories of those living and working across the Highland and Island region to a wider audience. There will be the opportunity to broadcast and publish material across a range of BBC Scotland News outlets, including live radio bulletins which are at the heart of our local offering.

The Highlands and Islands is the largest news patch in the country – and one of the most diverse. We are looking for a Journalist who will be able to deliver expert, authoritative and creative news coverage as part of a small team covering a large geographical area. The small team means that we all work collaboratively to provide material for a range of outlets including TV, Radio and Online.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
* Prepare, write and broadcast local news bulletins for the Highland region, bringing the stories of the day to our audience.
* Bring in original news stories which can be developed for use across BBC Scotland News outlets.
* Work flexibly across a range of shifts as part of a small team.
* Exercise editorial judgment and impartial in accordance with the BBC health and safety policy and editorial and social media guidelines.
* Look to develop our digital offering by writing and preparing content for the BBC Scotland News website.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
* Strong journalistic experience with sound editorial judgment, knowledge of BBC’s news agenda, and production techniques.
* Technically proficient in using tools to gather broadcast material and skilled in writing and adapting content for various audiences and platforms, including social media.
* Highly organised and adaptable, able to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and perform well under pressure.
* Excellent team player and communicator, capable of building effective relationships across teams and contributing creative ideas for improvement.
* Committed to diversity and inclusion, with an understanding of how individual differences strengthen the BBC.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
* A knowledge and understanding of the importance of Gaelic culture to the region would be desirable
