Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join the Acute physical setting. This is a fixed term post for 7 months, starting no earlier than 1 May 2026. The post may suit those looking to develop higher Band 5 skills and leadership capabilities. You will be supported by experienced staff with opportunities to develop clinical and leadership skills.
The post is based mainly at Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary (DGRI) within the Therapies Department. A rotational programme (6 monthly) enables you to develop skills clinically and in the Leadership pillar of practice, with experience across a range of acute hospital specialities including: Medical/Surgical (including Emergency Department and Admissions Unit), Orthopaedics, Rehabilitation, and Medicine for the Elderly.
You may also be able to undertake a new rotation between DGRI and the Community Rehab Unit at Mountainhall Treatment Centre, Dumfries. This will enable delivery of rehabilitation services and development of skills in providing ongoing rehabilitation for patients in outpatients settings or in their homes. Ability to travel independently is required for the Community rotation.
The Acute OT service currently provides a 7 day service, and you would be expected to work at weekends and Public Holidays as part of an agreed rota. This will be discussed at interview.
Responsibilities
* Provide occupational therapy assessment and intervention in acute hospital settings across multiple specialties.
* Work within a 6-month rotational programme to build clinical skills and leadership capabilities.
* Participate in weekend and public holiday rotas as required.
* Contribute to service development, supervision, and appraisal processes (TURAS).
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to plan and deliver patient-centred rehabilitation.
* Travel to the Community Rehab Unit rotation if selected, delivering rehabilitation in outpatient or home settings.
Qualifications and Skills
* Qualified Occupational Therapist.
* Interest in acute physical settings; ability to travel for community rotation.
* Ability to work across multiple specialties and demonstrate reflective practice.
