Qualifications
* Legal right to work in the UK before commencement of employment.
* Two references (preferably covering 3 years).
* Qualification: Admitted Solicitor with practising certificate or Cilex Lawyer with litigation and advocacy rights, membership of the Law Society and SRA or Cilex.
Role Summary
We are looking for a Senior Solicitor to join the Housing and Neighbourhood Nuisance Team (Legal). One of the important functions of the team is to provide legal support to Manchester and Salford councils in respect of all aspects of social housing law.
Responsibilities
* Housing Management.
* Remedies for anti‑social behaviour including injunctions, possession and closure orders.
* Legal challenges to homelessness decisions including judicial review and appeals.
* Advice and representation in the County Court and Magistrates Court.
* Flexibility to be on paid standby out of hours duty – Monday to Friday for phone calls and Saturday for arrests on a rota basis (usually every six weeks).

You will be knowledgeable and enthusiastic about social housing law, self‑motivated to expand your knowledge to meet client needs and able to work as part of a team. You should be able to identify important legal and evidential issues and communicate complex legal issues to client officers. You will be a persuasive advocate.
Experience in local government or as an in‑house lawyer is desirable.
