Organisation British Triathlon Salary Up to £35,000 Location Hybrid - Home-based & British Triathlon Head Office in Loughborough Contract type Permanent (Full time) Closing date 10 May 2026 Job Description The Participation Marketing Manager will lead the marketing of British Triathlon and Triathlon England’s development programmes to increase awareness, engagement and participation in the sport, ensuring initiatives such as Swim Bike Run, club support, workforce development and grassroots events are well promoted, coordinated, and aligned with participation growth objectives. Supporting British Triathlon to open up triathlon so athletes and communities can go further than they ever thought possible.
Responsibilities
Participation campaign planning and delivery
- Develop and deliver marketing plans to support participation growth and community engagement across British Triathlon’s programmes and initiatives.
- Lead campaign activity to drive awareness, consideration, sign-up and repeat participation across the sport, spanning events, coaching and clubs.
- Support the promotion of participation initiatives including Swim Bike Run, Active Skills for Life, and other grassroots or entry-point programmes.
- Ensure campaigns are audience-led, insight-informed, and aligned to strategic priorities.
- Cross-functional partnership with Development Directorate
- Work closely with teams across the Development Directorate to understand priorities, programme objectives, target audiences, and delivery timelines.
- Partner with colleagues in Events, Clubs, Regional Managers, and Workforce/Coaching to translate programme goals into clear, effective marketing activity.
- Act as the key marketing contact for participation-related projects, ensuring strong communication and coordination between marketing and programme teams.
Audience growth and engagement
- Help identify and prioritise target audiences, including new participants, lapsed participants, families, schools, clubs, coaches, volunteers, and underrepresented groups.
- Create marketing approaches that reduce barriers to entry and make triathlon feel more accessible, inclusive, and achievable.
- Support participant journeys from first touchpoint through to deeper engagement in the sport.
Content and channel management
- Brief and coordinate content and creative assets to support campaign delivery across digital, social, email, web, partnerships and other relevant channels.
- Work with internal teams and external agencies/suppliers where needed to deliver high-quality campaign assets and activity.
- Ensure messaging is consistent with brand guidelines, audience needs, and programme objectives.
Digital marketing and optimisation
- Use digital channels to effectively reach and convert target audiences, including email, website, paid/organic social, partnerships and community channels.
- Work with data and insight to monitor performance and optimise campaigns over time.
- Support testing and learning across campaign messaging, targeting, creative and channels.
Stakeholder and partner engagement
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including schools, clubs, delivery partners, event organisers, coaches and community organisations where relevant.
- Support the development of marketing toolkits or resources that help partners promote participation programmes locally or regionally.
- Build strong working relationships across home nations and internal teams where activity overlaps.
Measurement and reporting
- Define success measures for participation campaigns and regularly report on performance against objectives.
- Track key metrics such as reach, engagement, registrations, conversion, participation levels and retention where relevant.
- Turn campaign results into actionable insights and recommendations for future activity
Relationships
Our new Participation Marketing Manager will report into the Head of Marketing and Membership. The successful candidate will be an integral member of the Brand, Marketing and Membership Directorate, working closely with colleagues across marketing, digital, communications, membership and commercial teams to plan and deliver coordinated campaigns.
The role will also work in close partnership with the Development Directorate, particularly colleagues across Participation, Clubs, Workforce and Events, ensuring development programmes and grassroots initiatives are effectively promoted and aligned with organisational priorities.

Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- 3–5 years’ experience in a marketing role
- Proven experience developing and delivering multi-channel marketing campaigns
- Experience working with participation, sport development or community engagement programmes
Desirable
- Understanding of the sport and physical activity landscape in the UK
- Experience working within a national governing body, sport or charitable organisation
Skills & Competencies

- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling content
