Role Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced, and committed Deputy Head of Computer Science to join a high‑performing college in Bromley. This is a leadership role offering the opportunity to guide a thriving department, teach across KS3, GCSE, and A‑Level, and contribute to a supportive, innovative teaching environment.
About the Department
* High-achieving students: At GCSE, 83% achieved Grades 7–9; at A‑Level, 92% achieved A or A*. Many students pursue Computer Science at university.
* Curriculum:
* Years 7–9: Python introduced in Year 7; C# used from Year 8 onwards.
* Years 10–11: OCR GCSE Computer Science.
* Sixth Form: OCR A‑Level Computer Science.
* Integration of cloud tools: CodeBash, GitHub, Microsoft Teams.
* Competitions & Enrichment: Cyber‑Security for Girls, PA Raspberry Pi Competition, Bebras/OUCC, Informatics Olympiad, Perse Team Coding Challenge.
* Resources: Three dedicated staff and three IT suites; emphasis on innovation and development.
Key Responsibilities
Academic Leadership & Curriculum Management
* Support HoD in curriculum planning, development, and review.
* Lead initiatives to integrate new technologies and teaching methods.
* Monitor student performance and implement interventions as needed.
Staff Management & Professional Development
* Assist with recruitment, induction, and mentoring of staff.
* Organise professional development, workshops, and training sessions.
* Foster a collaborative and innovative departmental culture.
Operational & Administrative Duties
* Manage daily departmental operations in the HoD’s absence.
* Assist with budgeting, resource allocation, and equipment procurement.
* Ensure compliance with policies, regulations, and health & safety standards.
Student Support & Engagement
* Provide academic guidance, mentorship, and career advice.
* Promote participation in competitions, hackathons, and research projects.
* Address student concerns and contribute to retention strategies.
Essential Requirements
* Recent experience teaching Computer Science at KS3, GCSE, and A‑Level.
* Recognised teaching qualification with QTS.
* Current Enhanced DBS certificate, or willingness to obtain one.
* Availability to start September 2026 (earlier start possible).
