Job Purpose
As a Senior Business Analyst in the Digital Experience Team in Information Services, you will bridge the gap between business needs and technological solutions, with a focus on Information Security. You will gather and analyse business requirements, identify opportunities to strengthen security, and support the University in implementing solutions that protect its people, systems, and intellectual property. Reporting to the Head of Digital Experience, you will collaborate with the Information Security Team to lead system discovery, understand user requirements, conduct gap analyses, complete data mapping, and capture business processes to inform solution design and business case documentation for the Information Security Controls Programme of Work.
Main Duties And Responsibilities
* Lead engagement with business stakeholders to understand processes, challenges, and information security requirements, building strong working relationships based on open communication and trust.
* Lead the elicitation, analysis, and documentation of business needs through interviews, workshops, and surveys, ensuring outputs meet information security standards and support strategic information security objectives.
* Map and assess current business processes and systems, identify gaps and pain points, and use gap analyses to propose optimised processes and improvements enabled by new technologies to embed cyber controls.
* Translate business requirements into clear specifications for technical and non-technical teams, supporting the design and implementation of cyber security controls and gaining buy‑in from senior stakeholders.
* Produce high-quality documentation, including business requirements and functional specifications, to inform business cases and solution design.
* Work with the Project Manager to support planning, design, implementation, and benefits realisation activities within the Information Security Controls Programme of Work.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications Essential:
* A1 Competence in undertaking duties at this post level with appropriate knowledge and skills. Or Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a related role.
* A2 Excellent working knowledge of business analysis tools and techniques.
* A3 Knowledge of data mapping techniques, data quality assurance, and data governance principles.
* A4 Knowledge of and exposure to Information Security Controls, Resilience Controls or Compliance.
Desirable:
* B1 Familiarity with developing robust and successful business cases.
* B2 Certification in Business Analysis.
* B3 Familiarity with CIS/NIST Controls and ISO 27001 Framework.
Skills Essential:
* C1 Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
* C2 Interpersonal skills enabling effective relationships with stakeholders and a flexible, resilient approach.
* C3 Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality.
* C4 Excellent organisational skills to plan and prioritise work.
* C5 Analytical and complex problem-solving capabilities, including process and systems analysis.
* C6 Proficiency in capturing and managing business requirements.
* C7 Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and translate business objectives into actionable specifications.
* C8 Ability to identify risks, dependencies and blockers and mitigate their impact using a range of tools.
* D1 Development of robust business cases.
Experience
Essential:
* E1 Practical experience in business analysis, documenting data structures and business processes to inform business cases.
* E2 Experience engaging with stakeholders and maintaining relationships throughout the development cycle.
* E3 Experience translating as-is business process information to conceptualise information for a business case.
* E4 Experience producing analytical reports to track project progress for a senior audience.
Desirable:
* F1 Experience in base case development.
* F2 Familiarity with a Higher Education environment.
* F3 Experience in an Agile project management environment.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 8, £50,253 - £58,225 per annum.
This post is full time and fixed term for up to 24 months from the agreed start date.
